I am creating this blog for practical purposes. Some of my travels are for work and some are for vacation. I am creating this blog so I can what I liked and disliked about a hotel, banquet room or banquet personnel. Also, it will be nice to keep track of the hotels and restaurants from vacation.

The  no- Dive  (almost) Dive Vacation Another year and another of my wife's shopping weekend at our house. If you have read any previous posts you will see that most years Karen’s aunts, cousins, nieces and girlfriends come to our house to get together and do a little early Christmas shopping. It just so happens that I love to dive so I go diving for four or five days, usually Mexico but I did go  to Key West one year. It works out well, they don’t have to worry about having one male in the house with twenty five or so women and I get to go diving. I love Isla Mujeres, the diving is good, North Beach is beautiful and it is flat out cheap to stay, dive and eat on Isla. This has been one of the quietest hurricane seasons in recent history so I thought I was not going to have a problem with the weather. Oh well, there is always next year. Missing Isla

Missing Isla You think it is a little odd to call my blog entry Missing Isla when it is about our vacation to Pureto Aventuras (or maybe not)? Read on to find out why I suffered several pangs of remorse while on our Puerto Aventuras vacation. We had vacations that have started a lot worse than this one but were excellent vacations. For example, our first vacation to Turks and Caicos , we did not get our luggage until we had been there a day and a half and the stores (most all of them) were not open on Sunday so we sweltered in jeans and tennis shoes for over a day before we found an open T-shirt shop and we each bought a shirt and shorts. We also spent $13 dollars for a dusty (but not expired) bottle of of contact solution. Our hotel was a dump, the staff was rude and they claimed that someone had cancelled our reservations. So much for Trip Advisor! We chose the Sibonne because it was advertised as a small boutique hotel, which sounded much better than a large resort. Wrong!...

Key West November 2007

Key West on the cheap Amazon.com Widgets November 16 2007 I wasn't as psyched about my dive trip to get out of the house this year. Maybe I was not as excited because I have been to Key West many times, and it is getting a little old. I don't think I believe that but I don't know what else it might be. Anyway I was able to use frequent flier miles to get here, it cost me 37,500 and I have three connecting flights each way, but the ticket was free. When Karen's friends and relatives came up for the shopping weekend last year I was excited about going to Isla Mujeres and it turned out to be a very nice vacation. Karen and I went there September of this year and she likes Isla as much as I do, enough that we are going back this summer to try to see the whale sharks. The first and last days will consist mostly of travel. I had a 7:30 am flight out of Minneapolis going to Cleveland. After a short layover in Cleveland, I flew to Miami, then on to Key West.
