Cleveland February 2008

I am in Cleveland for another seminar. When I woke up on Monday the radio said we had pea soup fog and roads were baked up and flights were delayed. I had visions of not being able to get into Cleveland on Monday. However, the fog was not that bad so it took me twenty minutes to get to the Park and Fly and my flight left on time. They had the trainees working the desk when arrived. I tried to check in an hour ahead of the official check in time and I was told that he may not be able to give me a room. I said that I had one of the banquet rooms and I got a right away. I had lunch and went to set up, I had to have the front desk let me into the room but all of the people with the key had left. The girl at the front desk turned to me and said "management has the key" and then just stood there looking at me. Luckily the skilled desk person showed up and let me in. I had organized all of the tools so it did not take long to set up, compared to what it use to.

I had stayed at this Holiday Inn the last time I was in Cleveland. It is not a bad hotel so I decided to return this time. The hotel is about five miles from the airport, my GPS had me take back roads. The hotel is positioned the wrong way so the lobby is on the side of the building and there isn't any parking for the lobby and there is not enough room to park at the entrance. The hotel is not in a bad part of town but it is not in the best part of town. Those are my only complains about the hotel. We are going to come back later this this year for another seminar and I think I will recommend finding another hotel closer to the airport.

I actually got complaints about the hotel today during the final class. I am not sure how realistic the complaints are, the students were comparing the hotel the the Marriott in Denver that they stayed at for Gambro school. I am sure Gambro has a corporate deal with Marriott because the room were only $80.00. I doubt that there are any Marriott's with a walk-in price of $80, so the comparison is unfair.

The banquet people here are really friendly and helpful. I asked that the move second break (they bring soda and snacks) ahead about an hour for the second day of class. They not only remembered to do it they actually did move it ahead an hour. At some hotels this is harder than you think. Sheryl was the banquet person that I was working with and she was excellent.

Both of the classes have gone well.
